Solid state decontamination
Solid state decontamination is used to remove monomers or degradation products which remain in a polymer like polyoxymethylene (POM) or poly lactic acid (PLA) after polymerization in the melt phase. An additional application is the removal of volatile contaminants from recycled polymers such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP). A two-step process heats the polymer particles to a suitable temperature below their stickiness point and strips the released contaminants with a continuous flow of hot air or nitrogen.
